- Globe Telecom launches MyGlobe Instant Messenger with a new light java-based client. Now live with the Philippines two major carriers, Chikka becomes the Official Gateway to texting any mobile phone in the world’s SMS Capital.
April
- The Catholic Archdiocese of Manila launches Catextism. The mobile portal offers a venue to exchange prayers, reflections and inspirational quotes
- Chikka designs pioneering SMS-based games and promos to give corporate partners the benefits of text-enabling traditional raffle promos, strengthening their brands and enhancing their images.
- Chikka creates Txt2Mail, unifying email and instant messaging.
July
- On its first year anniversary, Chikka is already a multi-platform company. It now offers with its core messaging platform corporate solutions, interactive TV, mobile commerce, and mobile matchmaking services.
August
- TextJP2 (for His Holiness, the Late John Paul II) helps raise funds for the 2003 World Meeting of Families.
September
- SGS auditors recommend Chikka Asia Inc.’s certification for ISO 9001:2000 quality management standard under the scope “Mobile Data Service Provider.”
October
- Partnerships with productions such as E! in the Philippines highlights the dawn of Chikka’s “New Media”—where TV, radio and mobile are really converging.
November
- SGS confirms Chikka’s ISO 9001:2000 certification. Chikka and its affiliates, hence, become the first mobile data enabler in the country, and possibly the world, to achieve this particular standard.
- Chikka launches Chikka Txt Messenger version 2.0, featuring an automatic add-buddy system and accommodating up to 200 buddies from the previous 50.
November to December
- Smart and Globe subscribers engage Miss World 2002 through the SMS-voting enabled by Chikka.
December
- The Intellectual Property Office in Singapore grants patents for most of the processes and methods filed concerning the design and operation of Chikka Txt Messenger
