Redefining Mobile Commerce with the New Natural Currency
January
- Paysetter International launches Globe’s “Share-a-load”—the first variable peer-to-peer call credit transfer service. It employs intellectual property as licensed by Chikka and is the most utilized of all mobile apps to date.
June
- Paysetter International powers Globe’s “Txtback” that allows a subscriber to respond without charge when the subsidizer shoulders the response.
July
- In Thailand and Indonesia , Chikka breaks records for SMS volume generated by a single application in one day, instantly establishing the reputation of newly formed Chikka franchisees in those countries.
October
- At the Philippine Internet Review, Chikka, with a 15 million-strong community, announces: “Next to email, we are the most viewed electronic properties by Filipinos worldwide.” Over 1 million people use the Chikka Instant Messenger at any given time.
- Chikka launches an MMS-supported version of the Chikka Instant Messenger.
December
- “Donate-a-Load” is mobilized by Globe via Paysetter International and the Philippine National Red Cross for the victims of killer typhoons “Winnie” and “Yoyong.” The application allowed people to donate their load for as low as P5. P1M is raised in the first 3 hours.
- The 2004 Tsunami disaster relief effort benefits from the “Donate-a-Load” platform as Chikka enables UNICEF to convert call credits given as donations.
