May 16, 2003
Chikka stood side by side with partners Nokia, Globe Telecom, Ayala Foundation, SEAMEO Innotech, PMSI-Dream Broadcasting at the recent launch of text2teach for the Department of Education. The program enables teachers in selected schools to engage in interactive media technology to develop student interest in science and technology. Teachers can access, thru text requests, more than 80 full-length educational videos to illustrate a key component of the science curriculum. The requested videos will be sent via satellite to a digital recorder connected to a television monitor inside the classroom.
Text2teach is actually the initiative of BridgeIT, a global program developed jointly with NOKIA, the International Youth Foundation and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Chikka CEO Dennis Mendiola was at the launch ceremonies at the Hotel Intercontinental Manila graced by Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Ayala Foundation Vice President Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, Globe Telecom CEO Gerardo Ablaza, NOKIA Executive Vice President Veli Sundback and Education Secretary Edilberto De Jesus.
According to Mendiola: "Chikka is proud to be part of the pioneering team which is making this happen in the Philippines, with its well documented love for texting yes, but also as a showcase of excellent wireless applications development that is improving our quality of life."
