Chikka.com founder is ICT Entrepreneur of the Year

Dennis Mendiola, founder of Chikka.com, the popular Internet gateway to texting mobile phones was proclaimed 2006 Ernst and Young Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Entrepreneur of the Year.
The Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) Awards is among the most prestigious business recognition programs in the country held in over 40 countries around the world by Ernst and Young. EOY acknowledges outstanding entrepreneurs for their achievements in various industries.
Mendiola was recognized for leading his company Chikka Asia in becoming a powerhouse in mobile applications development. The company today provides communications, content, commerce and corporate solutions to international network operators who in turn make them available to over a billion mobile subscribers in the US, India, Japan, the UK, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, The Philippines, Singapore and Hongkong.
Mendiola credited his award “to the leap of faith taken by employees who subscribed to the vision of Chikka ‘to unite communities erstwhile separated by geographical and technological differences.’” He further credited it to Philippine mobile network operators, “with whom mobile network operators benchmark themselves for innovative spirit.”
Chikka’s flagship is a freely “downloadable Instant Messaging application that united the online world with the sea of SMS users. Since its launch in 2001, the Chikka Messenger now claims over 35 million registered users.
According to the company, Chikka today, next only to email, is probably the most used and viewed Internet-based communications tool by Filipinos worldwide.
